ESG, Business and Human Rights with People at the Centre Lead to Sustainability
Bangkok, Thailand
JALAN Civic Lab’s Executive Director, Matt Yutthaworakool, was recently invited by RecyGlo Thailand to speak at a webinar on: “Sustainability and Social Justice: How ESG Can Empower Human Rights in Businesses” (Thai: ความยั่งยืนและความยุติธรรมทางสังคม : ESG กับการส่งเสริมสิทธิมนุษยชนในภาคธุรกิจ)
The 2 May 2025 session created an energising space to reflect on the intersection between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the Business and Human Rights (BHR) framework. Both approaches—when integrated—can powerfully shift business practices toward people-centred sustainability.
In his talk, Matt highlighted how ESG can move beyond compliance and traditional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Instead, a human rights-based approach can embed core values like labour protections, gender equity, environmental justice, and digital rights into business strategy—ensuring businesses place people before profits.
If you're working at the crossroads of ESG, human rights, and civic engagement, or seeking a meaningful collaboration, JALAN Civic Lab welcomes partnerships that centre justice, sustainability, and impact. Please write to jalanciviclab@gmail.com.
