JALAN Civic Lab Joins the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance

Bangkok

JALAN Civic Lab is pleased to announce that we have joined the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance, a global collaborative network of organisations and experts working to advance media and information literacy worldwide.

The UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance brings together more than 400 organisations and 200 individual experts from over 100 countries. Through international cooperation, knowledge exchange, research and the sharing of good practices, the Alliance works to strengthen people’s ability to access, understand, critically evaluate and responsibly engage with media and information.

Membership in the Alliance closely reflects JALAN Civic Lab’s commitment to strengthening democratic participation, civic education and responsible digital citizenship across Southeast Asia. In an information environment increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and digital inequality, media and information literacy has become essential for building informed, resilient and inclusive societies. Joining the Alliance provides an important opportunity to connect this work with a wider international community and contribute perspectives and experiences from Southeast Asia.

As part of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance, we look forward to:

  • exchanging knowledge, research and practical approaches with organisations and experts worldwide;

  • contributing Southeast Asian perspectives to global conversations on media and information literacy;

  • developing educational initiatives that strengthen critical thinking and responsible digital participation;

  • collaborating on responses to misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and emerging digital challenges; and

  • supporting young people and communities to become informed, ethical and active participants in democratic society.

This membership represents another step in JALAN Civic Lab’s continuing effort to connect local action with international cooperation. We look forward to learning from the Alliance community, sharing our experiences and working with partners to advance media and information literacy for all.
